Dr. Clare Ardern (Virtual)

Dr. Clare Ardern is an Australian-trained physiotherapist and senior researcher in sports medicine. Her research has focused on (i) return to sport after injury (rates, determinants of success, improving the clinical approach) and (ii) how high-caliber meta-research (including systematic reviews, network meta-analyses, and clinical practice guidelines) can help clinicians make quality decisions. Jason Beneciuk, PT, DPT, PhD, MPH

Dr. Beneciuk received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2002 where he also completed an Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship in 2006. He received his PhD in Rehabilitation Science and MPH (Master of Public Health) with an epidemiology concentration in 2011 from the University of Florida where he was supported by a National Institutes of Health T32 pre-doctoral fellowship. In addition to his roles in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Florida, he also serves as interim director and clinical investigator with musculoskeletal concentration in the Brooks – PHHP Research Collaboration which is a partnership between Brooks Rehabilitation (Jacksonville, Florida) and the College of Public Health & Health Professions at the University of Florida (Gainesville, Florida). He has been or is currently supported by the National Institutes of Health K12 Rehabilitation Research Career Development Program, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, the Center on Health Services Training and Research and the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research. His research interests focus on secondary prevention of musculoskeletal pain and include risk-stratification approaches, psychologically informed physical therapy, implementation science, and health services research. He currently teaches evidence-based practice in the entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Florida. Dr. Beneciuk currently serves as an Editorial Board member for Physical Therapy and International Editorial Review Board member for the Journal of Orthopaedic and Sports Physical Therapy.

Carol A. Courtney, PT, PhD, ATC

Carol A. Courtney PT, PhD, ATC is Professor at Northwestern University. She received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St Louis, Master of Science from the University of South Australia and Louisiana State University, and a PhD from the University of Miami. Dr. Courtney is a licensed physical therapist and athletic trainer, and has been recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. In 1991 and 1992, she was chosen to serve on the USA medical staffs for the Pan American Games in Havana, Cuba, and the Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain.

Dr. Courtney has clinical expertise in the management chronic musculoskeletal pain and sports injury. Her research investigates the effects of knee joint injury and osteoarthritis on pain processing and joint function, as well as modulation of pain mechanisms through manual therapy and exercise interventions. She has over 100 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and conference presentations and has presented both nationally and internationally on this research. Dr. Courtney is the recipient of numerous university-level teaching awards and has been honored with the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists John McMillan Mennell Service Award and the 2008 and 2011 Richard Erhard Excellence in Research Award.
