About the Practice Affairs Fund

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) is committed to assisting its members and APTA state chapters by supporting legislative and regulatory efforts related to Direct Access and defending the scope of physical therapy practice. Funds are used to support the grant program and provide additional education programming to assist state chapters in obtaining OMPT-related practice goals.

Through the generous donations of our members and supporters, AAOMPT has been able to provide assistance to the following states and groups:

  • Alabama - AAOMPT provided a $5,000 grant in 2024 to assist the Alabama Physical Therapy Association in its efforts to achieve legislative and regulatory authority to expand direct access to physical therapy.
  • Colorado - AAOMPT provided a $5,000 grant in 2023 to assist the Colorado Physical Therapy Association in its efforts to achieve legislation renewing and expanding the state’s Physical Therapy Practice Act.
  • Florida - AAOMPT provided a $5,000 grant in 2018 to assist the Florida Physical Therapy Association in its efforts to achieve legislative and regulatory authority for physical therapists to perform dry needling in Florida.
  • Idaho - AAOMPT provided a $5,000 grant in 2018 to assist the Idaho Physical Therapy Association in its efforts to achieve legislative and regulatory authority for physical therapists to perform dry needling in Idaho.
  • North Carolina - In 2016, AAOMPT provided $5,000 and $10,000 grants to assist the North Carolina Physical Therapy Association in its efforts to achieve the legislative and regulatory authority for physical therapists to perform dry needling in North Carolina.
  • California - AAOMPT provided $5,000 grants in 2011 and 2012 to assist the California Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Special Interest Group in its efforts to achieve the legislative and regulatory authority for physical therapists to perform manipulation in California.

Practice Affairs Grant

The AAOMPT Practice Affairs Fund is used to support legislative and regulatory efforts related to the practice of orthopaedic manual physical therapy. It is open to all chapters and components and is eligible for up to $5,000 in grant monies. Practice Affairs Grant Application

The 140 Club

The 140 Club is a designation used to honor individuals who donate at least one hundred and forty dollars ($140.00) to the Practice Affairs Fund in a calendar year. Our 140 Club members are recognized at our annual conference. The ‘140’ refers to the CPT code for manual therapy, 97140. As a 140 Club member, you are investing in the future of our profession by ensuring that money and resources are available to fight for the protection of and ability to practice orthopaedic manual physical therapy (OMPT).
