2018 Kaltenborn "Teach I Must Award" Recipient
Britt M Smith, PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Britt Smith is a physical therapist and owner of SOAR Physical Therapy, a private practice in Grand Junction, CO. He received his doctorate of physical therapy at Regis University in 2007. He is a graduate of Northern Arizona University (BS, 1981), Samuel Merritt College (MSPT, 1997) and Regis University (DPT 2007). He serves as adjunct faculty at Regis University and NAU.
Dr. Smith is member of American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and a fellow of American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). Britt serves on boards of directors and committees in the Grand Junction medical community and he has presented at national conferences for the three associations. Britt received the 2008 Colorado Outstanding Physical Therapist award.
2018 John McMillan Mennell Service Award Recipient
Jake S Magel, PT, PhD, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPT
Jake Magel completed his manual therapy fellowship training and received his Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy from the US Army-Baylor University Post-professional Doctoral Program in Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapy in 2001 and his PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Utah in 2015. He is board certified in orthopaedic physical therapy and has held the American Academy of Orthopaedic and Manual Physical Therapists executive positions of Vice-President, Secretary and Member-at-Large of the. His research interests center on the management of patients with low back pain and he has presented original research nationally and internationally. The research teams on which he has served have received the Stephen J. Rose Excellent in Research Award and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists Excellence in Research Award.
2018 Distinguished Lecturer Presentation Recipient
Bill Boissonnault, PT, DPT, DHSc, FAAOMPT, FAPTA
Dr. Boissonnault is Executive Vice President of Professional Affairs, APTA, and Professor Emeritus, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He was a founding member of and Curriculum Director for the University of Wisconsin Hospital/Clinics and Meriter Hospital Orthopedic Physical Therapy Clinical Residency Program. Dr. Boissonnault holds multiple adjunct physical therapy faculty positions, presenting nationally and internationally and teaching differential diagnosis, diagnostic imaging, and communication skills. He is editor of the textbook Primary Care for the Physical Therapist; Examination and Triage, (Elsevier Saunders 1st and 2nd edition) and past co-editor of Pathology: Implications for the Physical Therapist I (Saunders-1st and 2nd edition). He has multiple journal publications related to differential diagnosis and physical therapist practice. Dr. Boissonnault is past-president of the Foundation for Physical Therapy, the profession’s national research fund-raising organization, and also past-president of the Orthopaedic Section of the APTA. In addition, he chaired the APTA Manipulation Legislative Task Force and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists Practice Committee.
