Zaki Afzal PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT(c), CSCS, USAW
Dr. Zaki Afzal has completed a fellowship in OMPT at The Ohio State Wexner Medical Center in 2018. Zaki also completed an Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency through the University of Michigan Health Systems in 2016. He is now an owner of a cash-pay physical therapy practice that caters towards the needs of active adults and athletes. He is also adjunct faculty at the Touro University Nevada DPT program helping in the teaching of basic skills, orthopedics, and exercise physiology. He has presented at state conferences and lectured at his physical therapy alma mater on various physical therapy topics. He likes to merge the worlds of strength and conditioning and physical therapy in order to help his patients achieve their goals.
Chris Allen PT, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPT
Chris Allen is an Associate Professor with the College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Allen has several grant-funded projects investigating the effectiveness of physical therapy for the management of knee OA and the impact on long-term activity levels. He is also involved in research on the motor learning and training for physical therapists learning manual physical therapy skills. His earned professional degrees include a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Baylor University, and a Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy from Baylor University. He is board certified in Orthopaedics, he is fellowship trained in manual physical therapy, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists.
Cora Aytona PT, DPT, OCS, Dip. MDT, FAAOMPT
Cora Aytona, DPT, OCS, Dip. MDT, FAAOMPT graduated from the University of the Philippines with a BS in Physical Therapy in 1993 and completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at the University of Saint Augustine in Florida in 2008. She successfully achieved Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy in 2015 and OCS in 2018. Cora was appointed Teaching Faculty for The McKenzie Institute in 2006 and promoted to Senior Faculty in 2015. She also serves as a board member for McKenzie Institute USA branch.
Cora is a Clinical Mentor for DPT students in her area as well as an active contributor to MDT research. Her article, Rapid Resolution of Chronic Shoulder Pain: A Case Series, was published in The Journal of Manual and Manipulative Therapy (JMMT) in 2013. (Aytona M. (2013). She also serves as an author and developer of several of the case studies used in the online McKenzie Case Manager course. She has presented at both Americas Region and McKenzie International Conferences.

Sara Baker PT, DPT
Dr. Baker received her DPT in 2016 from Georgia Southern University. She joined Brooks Rehabilitation as an outpatient therapist before starting the Brooks/UNF Orthopedic Residency in 2017. She graduated from the Residency in 2018 and is currently a Fellow-in-Training at the Brooks/UNF OMPT Fellowship. Dr. Baker enjoys being a clinical instructor to Physical Therapy students and has an emerging interest in treating the cervical spine.

Mark Bishop PT, PhD, FAPTA
Mark Bishop received his entry-level training in Australia and has more than 25 years of experience working in the management of musculoskeletal pain conditions. His research examines the neurobiology of pain development and management to identify potential mechanisms that 1) explain the transition from acute to chronic pain and 2) mechanisms of conservative care for pain. This work has been recognized with numerous research awards.His teaching portfolio covers DPT, residency and fellowship, and graduate coursework nation wide and has been recognized with awards from the FPTA, and Orthopaedic Section of the APTA.

Dr. Boyles is currently Program Director and Clinical Professor at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA. His primary areas of instruction are in orthopaedics, including evaluation and intervention, manual therapy treatment techniques, and musculoskeletal imaging. Raymond Butts is senior instructor and fellowship coordinator for the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. He graduated with honors from the US Military Academy at West Point and served as an Army officer in the Bosnia-Kosovo and Iraq conflicts. He received a post-graduate MSc in Brain and Neuroscience Research from the University of Tubingen - Max Planck (Germany). In addition, he completed a PhD in Motor Rehabilitation from the University of South Carolina investigating the use of transcranial magnetic and direct current stimulation for disinhibition of the motor cortex and facilitation of plasticity-dependent, motor recovery.
Eric Chaconas PT, DPT, PhD
Dr. Eric Chaconas became the assistant program director for the Department of Physical Therapy at the university in 2014. He is also an assistant professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program, where he has served since 2008. Prior to joining the university, he worked as a physical therapist in both the outpatient orthopaedic and home health settings. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), as well as its Florida chapter (the FPTA), the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT), and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He serves as vice speaker of the FPTA’s Assembly of Representatives’ Board of Directors, and formerly served as chair of the FPTA’s Government Affairs Committee and as a FPTA federal affairs liaison.

Marie Charpentier PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT, ATC, LAT is a Lead Faculty for the Institute for Athlete Regeneration, a post-professional Residency and Fellowship Program in Orthopedics, Sports, and Manual Therapy. She also works for UT Health San Antonio, treating athletes in the University of Texas San Antonio athletic training room. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedics and Sports, Fellowship trained in Manual Therapy, and a Certified Athletic Trainer. Marie graduated from the University of Virginia with a BS in Sports Medicine before continuing to physical therapy school at Virginia Commonwealth University. Marie always knew that she wanted to pursue post professional training, so after working in private practice for a year, she completed the orthopedic physical therapy residency and orthopedic manual therapy fellowship in sports rehabilitation at the prestigious Kaiser Permanente in Southern California. Marie is an active member of the APTA and NATA, serving on several committees. She has spoken at several professional meetings including CSM, NATA, AAOMPT, TPTA, and SWATA. Marie is an avid runner and enjoys the challenge of treating endurance athletes.

Chris Chase, PT, Dip. MDT, OCS, FAAOMPT is currently in practice full time with Saint David’s Spine and Sports Therapy in Austin, TX. He graduated from Saint Louis University with a Masters in Physical Therapy (1999). Following graduation, Chris began working full-time in private practice, became MDT Certified in 2003 and successfully obtained his MDT Diploma in 2009. Susan Clinton is an award winning Physical Therapist in Sewickley, Pennsylvania as co-owner of Embody Physiotherapy and Wellness. Sara Cristello PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Cristello received her DPT in 2007 from Arcadia University. After working in private practice, Dr. Cristello joined Brooks Rehabilitation in 2009 serving in several center manager roles. She completed the Brooks/UNF Orthopedic Residency in 2011 and gained certification as a Board Specialist in Orthopedics in 2012. She completed the Brooks/UNF OMPT Fellowship in 2014. Currently she has a dual role within Brooks Rehabilitation; serving as the OMPT Fellowship Coordinator as well as the Outpatient Services Supervisor. Dr. Cristello's clinical specialization is within spinal conditions with a growing interest in lumbopelvic pain.

Diane Dalton is a Clinical Associate Professor at Boston University teaching musculoskeletal content in the DPT and OMPT Fellowship programs and practicing PT at BU Physical Therapy Center (BUPTC). Diane graduated from Columbia University in 1988 (MSPT) and MGH IHP (tDPT) in 2007. She completed an OMPT certificate program in 1994 at the Institute for Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and has been an Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist since 1997. Thomas Denninger DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Tom has specialized in the care of patients with complex pain conditions including chronic back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, central sensitivity, chronic fatigue syndrome, and whiplash associated disorders. His earned professional degrees include a BSc from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, a Master of Physical Therapy from Baylor University, a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Creighton University, and a Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy from Andrews University. He is board certified in Orthopaedics and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. Chris Dickerson graduated in 2012 from the University of Puget Sound with an entry level DPT. He has been a practicing clinician in Washington state since 2012. He is board certified in orthopaedics (OCS) and fellowship trained in orthopaedic manual physical therapy (FAAOMPT). In 2016 he opened an outpatient physical therapy clinic to have more control over implementation the OMPT model in patient care. Karen Dubrow earned PhD, Clinical Doctorate, and Masters in OMPT from the Ola Grimsby Institute (OGI), BSPT from Washington University, St. Louis, MSPT from Texas Woman’s University Grad School, and Nordic Manual Therapy Certification by the Nordic Group of Specialists after residency with the OGI. Dr. Mauricio Elizondo is originally from Ciudad Obregón, México. He graduated from Oregon State University with a BS in Athletic Training in 2008, from the University of Idaho with a MS in Exercise Science in 2010, and from the University of St. Augustine in 2016 with a DPT. Dr. Alicia Emerson is Assistant Professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at HPU. Stephanie Fournier PT, PhD(c), DPT, WCS, CLT-LANA
Stephanie Fournier graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma in 2008 with her bachelors in Exercise and Sports Science. She went on to graduate from Rockhurst University with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy in 2011. She is a graduate of the Women’s Health Physical Therapy Residency program at Texas Woman’s University and Baylor Institute for Rehab. Dr. Mary Beth Geiser has been a practicing clinician for over 27 years, specializing in orthopedics, sports medicine, spine rehabilitation and chronic pain. She holds active adjunct faculty positions at Marquette University, Concordia University Wisconsin, & Concordia University-St. Paul Minnesota, and is affiliate faculty at Regis University. Dr. Geiser has instructed in multiple graduate level classes including spinal manipulation, orthopedics, and pain management. She president and co-owner of SCORE Advantage LLC, a company which offers medical screenings, consulting services, orthopedic rehabilitation and educational opportunities. Dale Gerke is an Assistant Professor in the Program of Physical Therapy at Concordia University. His teaching responsibilities in the entry-level Physical Therapy program include kinesiology, orthopedics, and clinical imaging. Gerke serves as faculty and director for the Concordia University Orthopedic Residency Program. In addition to teaching, Gerke maintains an active clinical practice in a hospital-based outpatient orthopedic setting. Dr. Sean Harris has been a practicing clinician for 3 years, receiving his orthopedic specialty certification following completion of his residency with Memorial Hermann’s orthopedic residency in 2016. He is currently seeking his PhD through Texas Woman’s University where he also serves as adjunct faculty. Dr. Harrison's clinical background is primarily comprised of 5 years practicing full time in an outpatient based settings where his caseload consisted of patients with various types of musculoskeletal pain. Charles Hazle PT, PhD
Dr. Hazle has taught manual therapy at the University of Kentucky since 1996, first as an adjunct faculty member while a full-time clinician and then as a full-time faculty member. He has multiple manual therapy-related publications and has co-authored two textbooks on imaging. He was also principal author of “Diagnostic and Procedural Imaging in Physical Therapist Practice” and the “Imaging Education Manual.” Dr. Hazle teaching imaging as part of physical therapist practice for curricula in the US and abroad, and currently serves as the President of the Imaging Special Interest Group in the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy.

John Heick received his PhD in 2015 from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in Orthopaedic and Sports Science and his clinical Doctorate from Shenandoah University. John is board certified in orthopaedics, neurology, and sports and practiced for 16 years in the emergency department, sports, and orthopaedics settings. John teaches full-time and practices clinically in an orthopaedic/sports setting and the NAU Orthopaedic clinic. Dr. Heldman is a manual physical therapy at Emory Physical Therapy specializing in spinal rehabilitation, connective tissue disorders, and pain. Dr. Heldman is a Certified Athletic Trainer with Master’s Degree in Education. He completed his MPT from Nova Southeastern University. He completed his MTC and DPT from the University of St. Augustine. He was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2006. Additionally he has completed studies with Mario Rocabado for treatment of Cranio-Facial dysfunction and Luigi Stecco for his Diploma Fascial Manipulation.
Craig Hensley PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Craig P. Hensley is Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical Therapy and Human Movement Sciences (Northwestern University) and is co-director of their Orthopedic Residency. He completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree [University of Illinois Chicago (UIC)- 2007], Orthopedic Residency (University of Southern California- 2009), and Manual Therapy Fellowship (UIC- 2011). He has several published articles and is co-authoring the funded Clinical Practice Guideline for Medical Screening. Dr. Hensley has given over 30 peer-reviewed presentations. He serves on the AAOMPT Research and Practice Affairs Committee, the ABPTRFE Accreditation Committee, and is an External Assessor for IFOMPT.
Laura Iglar PT, DPT
Dr. Laura Iglar earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2015 and completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy at Marquette University in 2017. Prior to starting at OSU, Laura worked in inpatient rehab at the University of Wisconsin Rehabilitation Hospital in Madison, WI. There she treated patients with multiple neurological disorders, including stroke, Guillian-Barré Syndrome, and traumatic brain injury. Laura completed her Orthopaedic PT residency training at OSU. She is currently completing her Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Training at Ohio State University.
Gregory Johnson PT, FAAOMPT
Gregory S. Johnson, PT, FFFMT, FAAOMPT, graduated from the University of Southern California in 1971 and completed a one year residency program at Kaiser Vallejo under Maggie Knott. He remained as senior faculty for six years. Mr. Johnson is best known for his identification of the need for Physical Therapists to integrate treatment of the facial system into manual therapy and the development of the first Soft Tissue Mobilization course for Physical Therapists in 1980. In addition, Mr. Johnson utilized his extensive background in PNF to adapt standard manual therapy techniques of Joint Mobilization and develop the dynamic techniques of Functional Mobilization™ and Resistance Enhanced Manipulation™ (REM) techniques for joints, soft tissues, and neurovascular restrictions. Mr. Johnson has trainied or directed the training of over 40,000 therapist in the USA and internationally. Gregory Johnson is the co-founder and President of the Institute of Physical Art, the co-developer of the Functional Manual Therapy™ approach to patient care, and the Director of an APTA credentialed AAOMPT Fellowship program in Functional Manual Therapy™. He has published multiple chapters and articles on Soft Tissue Mobilization, PNF and the Orthopedic Patient, Functional Mobilization, and Functional Test for the Lumbar Patient and is currently involved in several research projects on Functional Manual Therapy.
Stephen Johnson, DPT
Stephen Johnson graduated with his DPT from Boston University in 2019. He has a BA in Biology from Assumption College. As part of the DPT, he completed a yearlong academic practicum project with the mentorship of Diane Dalton on the topic of graded motor imagery. He extensively reviewed the literature, performed in-service training for the staff at BUPTC, and co-treated patients, all to facilitate bringing this to practice when indicated. Stephen is a staff physical therapist at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, CT working in the acute care setting.
Ed Jones PT, DHSc, OCS
Ed Jones is an Assistant Professor in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis teaching musculoskeletal content in the Physical Therapy programs. He is also a practicing PT at Community Health Network in Indianapolis. Ed graduated with a BS from Indiana State University in 1997 and MS in Physical Therapy in 2002 and his Doctorate of Health Sciences in 2015 from the University of Indianapolis. Ed has been an ABPTS Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist since 2013. Steve Karas PT, DSc, CMPT, MA, ATC
Dr. Steve Karas is a faculty member at Chatham University where he teaches orthopedics and spine, and maintains consistent clinical practice. He obtained his Doctorate from Andrews University and holds a certification from The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT). His current research includes grant funded study of techniques and outcomes of thoracic spine manual therapy, stability testing of the upper cervical spine, and treatment fidelity in research. He has presented nationally and internationally on these topics. Dr. Karas is a member of the AAOMPT research committee & education special interest group, and a reviewer for several journals.
Adeeb Khalfe PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT, CSCS
Adeeb graduated from Baylor University in 2009 and received his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from Angelo State University four years later. Upon graduation, Adeeb furthered his training and successfully completed the Orthopedic Residency program at Houston Methodist Sugar Land, where he later stayed on as faculty & clinical mentor for the orthopedic, sports, and athletic training residency programs. In addition to being a Board Certified Specialist, Adeeb is also fellowship trained, completing this with The Institute for Athlete Regeneration, where he is now lead faculty and mentor. He has been invited to speak at multiple national & state conferences such as the Combined Sections Meeting, AAOMPT conferences, and TPTA conferences on topics ranging from the treatment of overhead athletes to improving athletic performance via attentional focus. Having worked with athletes of all ages, including little league baseball, college football, & professional basketball, Adeeb takes pride in creating programs specific to the demands of each respective sport. Adeeb is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, trained in blood flow restriction therapy, and certified in dry needling and cupping. He plans to sit for the sports specialization exam in March and is an active member of the American Physical Therapy Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists, Texas Physical Therapy Association, & the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Josh Kidd PT, DPT, OCS, Dip. MDT, CSCS, FAAOMPT
Josh has been practicing since 2007 of which time his professional career has been focused in orthopedics. He completed his board certification in orthopedics in 2010, this was followed by a Diploma in MDT in 2011, Masters in Orthopedic Manual Therapy in 2015, and Fellowship training through Daemen College in 2016. He is continually involved in clinical research and has been published in multiple peer reviewed journals. Aimee B. Klein, PT, DPT, DSc, OCS
Board certified in orthopaedic physical therapy, Dr. Klein is an Associate Professor in the School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of South Florida in Tampa. She attained her Doctor of Science (DSc) in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy from Rocky Mountain University of Health Professions in 2008 and the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from the MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2001. Klein received her Master of Science (1989) and Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy (1978) from Boston University’s Sargent College of Allied Health Professions. Prior to arriving in the State of Florida in January 2013, Dr. Klein was a Clinical Assistant Professor and Coordinator of the Clinical Residency in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston. Klein’s research focuses on the physical therapist’s diagnostic process as well as predictors of physical therapy outcomes in patients with lower extremity musculoskeletal dysfunction. Dr. Klein recently completed her tenure on the American Physical Therapy Associations’ (APTA) Board of Directors in 2012. In this role, Dr. Klein has been involved in the APTA’s efforts to ensure that physical therapy is a prominent part of health care reform. She has been a delegate or chief delegate on the APTA of Massachusetts delegation since 1989 – 2001 and 2005-206, as well as a member of the APTA’s Reference Committee from 2002 – 2004.

Dr. King is Professor and Chair, Department of Physical Therapy at East Tennessee State University and Chief Delegate, Tennessee Physical Therapy Association. She has over 30 years clinical and teaching experience in orthopedic and women’s health physical therapy & has been a board certified clinical specialist in orthopedic physical therapy (OCS) and a certified orthopedic manual physical therapy (MTC-OMPT). She holds degrees in Public Health (East Tennessee State University) and Physical Therapy (University of Tennessee, Memphis) and is a medical anthropologist (PhD -University of Florida and MA- University of Memphis). Previous roles include: Campus Director and DPT Program Director at the University of St. Augustine, Austin Texas; Chair of the Physical Therapy Department at Arkansas State University; Director of Distance Education & Director of Graduate Programs, University of St. Augustine Florida; Founding Co-Chair- Women’s Studies- Shenandoah University; Interim Executive Director of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists; Director of Education- Results Physiotherapy; and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Women’s Health Physical Therapy.

Dr. Kristina Koroyan is a physical therapist and current fellow-in-training with the American Academy of Manipulative Therapy. She serves as an adjunct professor at for the PTA program at IOT in Clovis, CA teaching anatomy/physiology and manual physical therapy. She recently published a case study on the use of high-intensity interval training and manual therapy procedures in the home care setting and is investigating these effects in a larger patient population who are homebound.

Elaine Lonnemann PT, DPT
Elaine Lonnemann is the President of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT). She is the program director of the transitional Doctor of Physical Therapy program at the University of Saint Augustine.
She has 30 years of clinical experience in musculoskeletal physical therapy and is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopaedics. She has presented nationally and internationally both moderating and participating in debates, panel discussions and has over 60 peer reviewed presentations, textbook chapters, invited lectures and journal publications. Her degrees include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Louisville (1989), a Master’s Degree in Orthopaedics from the University of St. Augustine (1996) and a transitional Doctorate Degree from the University of St. Augustine (2004). Her clinical experiences include management in outpatient settings, owner of private practices and Chief PT in a Level 2 Trauma Center. She has served two terms as Secretary of AAOMPT and as the Chair of the AAOMPT International Federation of Manual Physical Therapists Educational Standards and International Monitoring Committee. She was a member of the OMPT Description of Fellowship Practice Task Force and author for the 2018 revision of the Manipulation Education Manual. Awards include the President Joseph and Maureen McGowan Prize for Faculty Development from Bellarmine University, AAOMPT Mennell Service Award, Outstanding Graduate Student Award Distance Education Training Counsel, Dennis Lesch Award for Clinical Excellence, and the Kees-Goebel Award for Professionalism. Joe graduated from D’Youville College in 2004 with his Master’s degree in Physical Therapy. Sorcha Martin PT, DPT, FAAOMPT
Sorcha Martin, PT, DPT, FAAOMPT is a senior physical therapist at Boston University Physical Therapy Center and a faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training at Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. Her academic instruction focuses on clinical medicine, pain science and orthopedics. Sorcha completed a full fellowship in manual therapy at the Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy. Sorcha received a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Physiology and Athletic Training from Lasell College and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Boston University College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. At BUPTC, Sorcha also serves as the clinical education coordinator leading our DPT clinical education programs and is a mentor for the BU Manual Therapy Fellowship Program.

Stephen McDavitt received a B.S. and M.S. degree in Physical Therapy from Boston University and his Doctorate in PT from the MGH Institute of Health Professions. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists (AAOMPT) and a Catherine Worthingham Fellow of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). For over 40 years Dr. McDavitt has been practicing in outpatient orthopaedics. He has held PT faculty positions at Boston University, University of New England, and the University of St. Augustine. Steve is an Assistant Professor at South College, School of Physical Therapy in Knoxville and an Adjunct Clinical Assistant Professor at Mercer University, College of Health Professions in Atlanta.
In professional service, Dr. McDavitt is a member of APTA's Scientific and Practice Affairs Advisory Committee, APTA Manual Therapy Workgroup and is the President of the AAOMPT Board of Trustees of the AAOMPT Foundation for Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy. Steve served APTA for 2 terms as President of the Academy of Orthopaedic Physical Therapy and two terms as a Director on the APTA Board of Directors. Kristine is the Coordinator for the Houston Methodist Sugar Land Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency Program. Emily Novoa PT, DPT, OCS, COMT
Emily Novoa, PT, DPT, OCS, COMT is currently completing her orthopedic manual therapy fellowship through NAIOMT and is passionate about integration of manual therapy in her treatment of her patients. After completing her orthopedic manual therapy residency in Eugene, Oregon, Emily moved to Olympia, Washington to work as an integrated physical therapist in a family medicine residency. Here, she carved out a new role as a full faculty member in the residency and was in charge of the orthopedic and sports medicine curricula for family medicine residents. This unique role became a valued position which was retained even after her recent transition to a more typical outpatient setting at Tumwater Valley Physical Therapy.
Paul Ochoa PT, DPT, OCS, CMPT
Paul’s career in the medical field began as a phlebotomist and EMT in the late 90’s and a Massage therapist in the early 2000’s. He graduated from the Touro College DPT program in 2009 and continued on to pass the OCS exam in 2012. During his manual therapy education with NAIOMT he also had the honor of learning from the great minds of David Butler, Lorimer Mosley, Diane Lee, LJ Lee, Jill Cook, Mark Comerford, Shirley Sarhman and so many more amazing mentors. Elizabeth O'Shaughnessy SPT
Elizabeth O'Shaughnessy, SPT, is a physical therapy student at Boston University's College of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences: Sargent College. Her anticipated graduation is May, 2019. Liz received her bachelor degree in Performing Arts and Psychology from Clemson University in 2008. While at BU, Liz performed a year long practicum project titled "Promotion of Pain Science Education, Intervention, and Outreach in Under served Populations". Liz performed a literature review of current pain science, physiological effects of addiction within the body and associations between chronic pain and addiction, and use of Physical Therapy to treat chronic pain and all levels of addiction. She, along with two other BU students, created an outreach database for the greater Boston community. Liz hopes to work with the chronic pain population in the future to continue the much needed education to both patients and clinicians.

Catherine is an associate professor at University of St. Augustine. She works part time in clinical practice in orthopaedics. She has been a fellow of AAOMPT since 1996. She has maintained the OCS credential since 1994. She is active in the FPTA as a delegate to HOD since 2002 ,chief delegate from 2004-2006 and Florida chapter President from 2007-2009. Her research investigations with publications are on the topics of end-feel and clinical diagnostics skills especially with Posterior Tiberias topic. Bryan Pickens is an Assistant Professor and Director of the Army-Baylor University Doctoral Fellowship in Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy located in San Antonio, TX. Bob graduated from D’Youville College with a BS/MS in physical therapy in 1996 followed with his Doctorate in PT from Temple University in 2006. He is s Diplomate for the McKenzie Institute International and is a Fellow with AAOMPT . Bob is a contributing author for the APTA guidelines for assessment of the ACCE/DCE’s which receive the 2012 Standford award for its contribution to clinical education. He is a co-owner of Craven Physical Therapy and Spine and is a full time clinician hosting Doctoral and Fellowship students in his practice He has presented at state and national conferences and serves as a clinical coordinator and mentor for the Daemen College and McKenzie Institute USA OMPT Fellowship Programs.
Ronald Schenk PT, PhD, OCS, Dip MDT, FAAOMPT
Ron Schenk is a Professor of Physical Therapy at Daemen College, where he teaches in their DPT program and is Director of the Fellowship program in OMPT. Dr. Schenk earned his BS and MS degrees at Ithaca College and his PhD from the University at Buffalo. A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, he is a Diplomat in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute, USA and is Director of the McKenzie USA Orthopaedic Residency and OMPT Fellowship programs. He has completed Dr. Shirley Sahrmann’s course sequence in Diagnosis and Treatment of Muscle Imbalances and is active in clinical practice with the Catholic Health System of Buffalo Chronic Pain Spine Program. He was awarded the AAOMPT “Teach I Must Award in 2011, the McKenzie Institute International Extension Award in 2016, and the Mike Hage Award by the Rehab Institute of Chicago in 2017. Dr. Schenk has published in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national and international conferences.
Tamara Shelton PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Tamara “Nikki” Shelton is dual certified in sports and orthopedics and completed the NAIOMT fellowship program to become an AAOMPT fellow. She has served as adjunct faculty for Texas Woman’s University for the past 6 years. Dr. Shelton also serves as the orthopedic and sports residency director at Memorial Hermann and the director of the Memorial Hermann Regional Spine Centers and is the principal investigator for “Clinical Outcomes of the Spinal Patient from Conservative Care to Post-Operative Management.” Nikki is also involved in mentoring for multiple fellowship programs and has a passion for advancing clinical education.
Mark Shepherd DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Mark H. Shepherd is a physical therapist who holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) and is both board certified in orthopaedics (OCS) and is fellowship trained in orthopaedic manual physical therapy (FAAOMPT). He holds academic appointments at South College Physical Therapy Program, Bellin College, and Rasmussen College and teaches with Evidence in Motion and the International Spine and Pain Institute. Dr. Shepherd has published several peer reviewed articles and presented at both state and national conferences. He continues to practice in clinical care in the state of Maryland.
Emily Slaven PT, PhD, OCS, FAAOMPT
Emily Slaven is an Associate Professor in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy, University of Indianapolis where she leads the teaching of musculoskeletal and manual therapy content in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Emily is in clinical practice at Franciscan in Indianapolis. Emily graduated from University College Dublin, Ireland with a Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy in 1996 and since then continued her education in the UK and in the USA. In 2010, Emily completed her manual therapy fellowship at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC. Emily has published on manual therapy and received the AAOMPT OTPT Research Grant in 2018.
Stacy Soappman PT, DSc, FAAOMPT
Stacy Soappman, PT, DScPT, COMT, FAAOMPT received her physical therapy degree from Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI in 2001 and went on to receive her DScPT degree from Andrews University in 2011. She completed her fellowship training through The North American Institute of Orthopedic Manual Therapy (NAIOMT) in 2011. Stacy currently works in outpatient orthopedics in Denver, CO . She is faculty for NAIOMT and is also an adjunct professor at Andrews University in the Physical Therapy Department.

Carl Stones SPT
Carl Stones is a DPT student in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis. He graduated with a BS is Exercise Science from the University of Tulsa. Carl’s interest in the human body and his experience working with manual therapists during his own athletic career led him to pursue a career in physical therapy.
Maggie Stratton SPT
Maggie Stratton is a DPT student in the Krannert School of Physical Therapy at the University of Indianapolis. She graduated from UIndy with a BS in Exercise Science, a Healthy Diploma, and a Certificate in Aging Studies. Last year, Maggie served at the IU Student Outreach Clinic, a pro bono, student-run clinic, as the UIndy PT Education Chair and is currently serving as the UIndy PT Operations Chair. She is also an elected class representative for the KSPT Class of 2020 and is currently serving as the Director of Communications for the AAOMPT sSIG.
Paul Sullivan PT, MHS, CHT, FAAOMPT
Paul is the owner of Barrington Rehabilitation and Sports Physical Therapy in Barrington, Illinois which he established in March 1997. Paul earned his physical therapy degree from Northwestern University in 1983 and completed his Master of Health Science degree from the University of Indianapolis in 1989. Paul is a Certified Hand Therapist, treating a variety of hand, wrist and elbow conditions and fabricating custom orthoses since 2013. In 2018, Paul became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy (AAOMPT), completing his Fellowship training through the Manual Therapy Institute.
Brian Swanson PT, DSc, OCS, FAAOMPT
Brian T. Swanson received his degree in Physical Therapy from Quinnipiac University and earned his DSc from Andrews University. Brian is a Board-Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist, and completed a two-year residency and fellowship at the Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, Woburn, MA. Brian is currently a faculty member at the University of Hartford, as well as the Select Medical Orthopedic Physical Therapy Residency, and has worked with multiple Fellows-in-training as part of the AAOMPT fellowship process. An experienced presenter, Brian has presented continuing education courses nationally for practicing Physical Therapists speaking on topics related to the spine and shoulder.
Bryan Tachibana PT, DPT, ATC
Dr. Bryan Tachibana received his Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2017 from MGH Institute of Health Professions. He received his Bachelors in Athletic Training in 2014 from the University of Miami. After DPT school, Dr. Tachibana completed the Brooks/UNF Orthopaedic Residency in 2018 and is currently a Fellow in Training with the Brooks/UNF OMPT Fellowship. Currently, he is active both within AAOMPT and APTA's American Academy of Sports Physical Therapy.
Kenneth Taylor PT, DPT, OCS
Dr. Taylor is an Assistant Professor in the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at Gannon University in Ruskin, FL. He received his DPT from the University of Indianapolis and is a Board-Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy, having graduated from the James A. Haley Veterans’ Hospital’s Orthopaedic Residency Program. He has a Graduate Certificate in Applied Biostatistics and is currently a Public Health PhD candidate at the University of South Florida, studying Epidemiology. Dr. Taylor’s research interests are related to how sleep and musculoskeletal pain and function interact at the population level.
Jon Umlauf PT, DSc
Jon Umlauf is an Assistant Professor for the Army-Baylor Doctor of Physical Therapy Program and currently serves as the internship director at the Brooke Army Medical Center located in San Antonio. He earned his DPT in 2012 from the Army-Baylor Physical Therapy program and a DSc from Baylor in 2018. He is board certified in Orthopedics, fellowship trained in manual physical therapy, and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists. His research interests include diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging, manual therapy for peripheral neuropathies, and clinical instruction.
Dexter Upton PT, DPT, OCS, SCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Dexter Upton is a dual certified orthopedic and sports physical therapist that completed his AAOMPT fellowship through OPTIM Manual Therapy program in 2016. He currently acts as the coordinator for Memorial Hermann’s Sports Residency Program and serves as primary faculty and mentor for OPTIM’s manual therapy fellowship program. Dr. Upton also serves as a co-investigator for studies related to Memorial Hermann’s spine program. Dexter’s PT interests focus on integrating return to sport for patients suffering from low back pain.
Ryan Vickers PT, DPT
Dr. Vickers received his DPT in 2017 from the University of St. Augustine. He began working at Brooks Rehabilitation the same year as part of the Brooks/UNF Orthopaedic Residency Program which he completed in 2018. Currently Dr. Vickers is a Fellow-in-Training with the Brooks/UNF OMPT Fellowship, which he will complete in 2020. Beyond orthopaedic care, Dr. Vickers's interests are in the advancement of clinical education and mentoring for both students and residents.
Benjamin Volkman PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS
Ben Volkman is a board-certified physical therapist and faculty member at Houston Methodist Sugar Land where he coordinates the Upper Extremity module of the Sports, Orthopedic, and Athletic Training Residencies. He earned his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Angelo State University and subsequently completed his Sports Residency training at Houston Methodist Sugar Land. He is currently board certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist. As a former college pitcher, Ben enjoys the assessment and treatment both high school and college baseball players with an emphasis on pitching biomechanics.
Nichole Volstad PT, DPT, OCS, AAOMPT
Nichole is currently a faculty member of the Institute of Athlete Regeneration Manual Fellowship and practices as a sports physical therapist at EXOS in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Miami and completed her Orthopedic Residency from Houston Methodist Sugar Land. She received her fellowship training from the Institute of Athlete Regeneration specializing in sports and orthopedic manual physical therapy. Nichole is a former NCAA Division 1 soccer player, with research and presentations focused on biomechanics of kicking, return to sport predictors, and concussion rehabilitation.
Derek Vraa PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Vraa is a co-founder of the USAF Tactical Sports and Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy Fellowship Program where he serves as senior faculty, mentoring fellows and teaching didactic coursework. Prior to moving to Colorado, he spent over a decade treating complex pain patients in private practice. Derek has lectured and taught at a number of physical therapy schools in the upper midwest. Derek is a board certified orthopedic clinical specialist, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, certified in dry-needling and completed his Fellowship in Manual Therapy through Regis University in Denver, CO. Additionally, Derek serves as the AAOMPT ACF SIG Vice-President.
Scott Wallentine
Dr. Wallentine has practiced in both acute and orthopedic settings, and currently practices part time in the Missouri State University PT Clinic and in the community. His special interest and much of his clinical practice involves treating individuals with back, neck, and shoulder pain, particularly those with postural related problems. He enjoys practicing preventive physical therapy in the area of office ergonomic evaluation and intervention. Dr. Wallentine serves as the Director of Admissions for the Doctor of Physical Therapy Program.

Jodi Young PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Jodi Young is the Assistant Director of Research in the Bellin College DSc program. She is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Clinical Specialist through the American Physical Therapy Association and is also a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapy. She is currently working on a PhD through the University of Newcastle in Australia researching physical therapy dosing in patients with lower extremity injuries. She has presented at national conferences in the area of manual therapy and has been published in several different peer-reviewed journals.
Emmanuel Yung PT, DPT, OCS, FAAOMPT
Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Yung is Clinical Assistant Professor and Residency Mentor at Sacred Heart University. He previously mentored Orthopaedic PT residents for 10 years and lectured to over 25 residents yearly at Southern California Kaiser Permanente following completion of his Manual Therapy Fellowship training. Dr. Yung has over 50 peer-reviewed publications and presentations (nationally and internationally). He is the Education Committee Vice Chair and Medical Screening Clinical Practice Guideline co-author of the Academy of Orthopedic Physical Therapy, and AAOMPT Core Research Committee Member. Manny has won research, teaching, and practice awards/grants presented by AAOMPT, Sacred Heart and Kaiser respectively.
